Social Networking in Education
Social networking can be defined broadly as Internet or mobile based spaces for socialising, communicating, collaborating and creating content across networks of contacts.

While students are increasingly immersed in these environments – using sites such as My Space, Bebo, Facebook and Flickr – educators are asking if and how we should be using these to help them learn.
Social networking brings benefits such as young people becoming social participants and active citizens, young people becoming content creators and collaborators but they also bring risks.
Young people may misunderstand the nature of the environment and share personal information with a wider audience than they intend to. Social networking can also lead to cyberbullying and anti-social behaviour.
It is therefore important that as educators we know how to educate young people to use these services in an informed and safe way.
